Ever wished that someone could do your boring chores for you? If you have, then your wish has now come true. A team of four energetic students studying at St. Xavier’s College, Maitighar have introduced a unique service, ‘Dailo’ through which someone will now complete your boring errands for you.
Dailo is a personal concierge application which will complete any requested task through effective matching of clients with Dailo helpers. We had the opportunity to sit down with Ipsa Sharma and Meena Sherpa, two of the four co-founders of Dailo and find out what they are doing. Here’s what we talked about:
1. How did Dailo come into existence?
In the beginning, we were just four friends who wanted to do something meaningful and unique. So while brainstorming, the initial concept of Dailo came into our minds. It began with a thought of someone dropping off our essentials from one destination to other, in case of emergency situations. Later on, we developed this idea more after we participated in a startup incubation program called ‘Idea Studio’. By the end of two weeks of Idea Studio, we were then, up and running our present business.
2. Dailo is such an authentic Nepali name. How did you guys come up with it?
When we had this whole idea, we wanted it to be for every Nepali and not just the millennial or the younger Nepali generation. For that, we needed a very catchy name that can reflect the ‘Nepalipaan’. We were actually just talking casually about how we will deliver to everyone’s ‘ghar dailo’ and that is when the name ‘Dailo’ struck our mind.
3. Tell us something more about the services that Dailo provides.
At the moment, we are mainly focusing on three services. First is pick and drop. What we basically mean by pick and drop is that we will be helping you to pick or drop any documents or items from wherever you want. Second is bluebook renewal. Just for the minimal amount of Rs. 300, we will renew your two-wheeler bill book and renew your insurance for Rs. 200. You will no longer need to stay in line for hours now if you just dailo it! Lastly, we are giving you the service called ‘Running Errands.’ We will be doing all your errands that you might not want to do. For example: If you have booked your movie tickets online but you do not want to go an hour early to claim it, don’t worry. Dailo will go and bring the tickets to your door steps.
4. Does Dailo have any social concerns?
Part time culture has now been set in Nepal but there are still stigmas around it, such as what kind of works are valuable and what kind of works are minute works. As a startup, we are trying to remove these stigmas. Because at the end of the day, work is work and every work is valuable. At the same time, we are focusing on youth employment as well. There are so many students who go to college in the morning and are free the whole day. Usually, these students cannot find a job. So, what we do is give those students an opportunity to earn while helping them to gain valuable working experience and instilling work ethics.
5. So what are the future plans for Dailo?
When we first began, we had aimed to provide a lot of services. But, later we realized that as a startup, it is very difficult to fulfill those promises. Currently, we are providing only three services but, for the future, we are planning our best to start all the services that we had planned in the beginning. Also, for easy access, we will soon release our own app. It’s in the developing phase but we will be launching it as soon as possible.
